Through the No Boundaries programme, Discovery College has established and nurtured partnerships with a number of organisations who work to improve the welfare and opportunities for people in their communities. These partnerships help us to give students relevant, meaningful and challenging community engagement opportunities that directly address identified needs of specific communities. With this, students can participate in critical thinking exercises where they consider their perceptions about the people and places they visit, as well as how the experience may have challenged them personally. After No Boundaries, students are asked to reflect on what they learned about themselves, their relationship with others, and the importance of teamwork or leadership.
In setting up and selecting our community engagement partners, a focus was given to working in partnership with the community being visited, rather than simply doing something for that community. Students gain an appreciation of the issues faced by communities in the destinations they visit, aiming to foster an understanding of these issues rather than oversimplifying them. Discovery College looks forward to developing and maintaining long-lasting and meaningful, reciprocal relationships with our No Boundaries partners so that our students and the DC Community can really make a difference.
